Crown Range Road
Donning the crown of being the highest main road in New Zealand is the Crown Range Road. If you plan to drive the Crown Range between May and September, you need to make sure you are carrying chains and know how to fit them. The road reaches an altitude of 1121 metres, which does bring challenges. In winter, the road is often covered in snow and ice, making for very difficult driving conditions. The reward for being prepared here, is stunning views and photo opportunities.
