Moeraki Boulders
These boulders are one of the most fascinating and popular attractions on the South Island. Mysteriously spherical stones scattered across a beach. Each boulder weighs several tonnes and is up to two metres high. According to Maori legend, the boulders are gourds washed ashore from the great voyaging canoe Araiteuru when it was wrecked upon landfall. The Boulders are a very popular spot for photographers and with good reason!
